We are all in on summer vacation and feeling ready to celebrate all things red, white, and blue! With the 4th of July just around the corner, it’s time to start planning a backyard BBQ! Today I am sharing a favorite 4th of july cake recipe and some tips and tricks for hosting a summer gathering!

Set up some comfy seating areas with cushions and blankets, and don’t forget to provide plenty of shade for those hot summer days. Hang string lights or lanterns to add a magical touch as the sun sets and the fireworks light up the sky.
Side dishes and snackboards to keep the party going later into the evening. I recommend a food table so that you can switch items out when needed throughout the day.
Whip up this delicious vanilla cake with whipped cream frosting that will have everyone swooning. + 2 teaspoons vanilla extract +
+ 1 ¼ cups whole milk +
+ 2 cups heavy cream +
+ ½ cup powdered sugar +
+ 1 teaspoon vanilla extract +
+ Fresh strawberries +
+ Fresh blueberries +
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
5. Divide the batter equally between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
6. Let cakes cool, stack together and layer with frosting, arrange berries in a flag design. Enjoy!
