If you’ve ever dreamed of the perfect family ski trip—where the snow is fluffy, the logistics are easy, and the memories are magical—let me introduce you to Hyatt Beaver Creek. This place is straight out of a winter wonderland, and for a first-time ski family like us, it couldn’t have been more perfect.
One of the biggest stressors of skiing with kids? The gear. The endless zipping, adjusting, and hauling of skis, boots, and poles while little ones waddle around like bundled-up penguins. But Hyatt Beaver Creek? They’ve got it figured out. The ski-in, ski-out setup means no long treks, no shuttle rides—just step outside and boom, you’re on the slopes.
And the ski valet? Game-changer. They handle all the gear, making it feel like we had our own personal mountain butlers. (Wouldn’t it be nice if someone could also carry the kids back to the room after a long day? Just saying.)
By lunchtime, we were all feeling the burn—some of us from skiing, others (me) from simply trying to keep up with the kids. Thankfully, Beaver Creek has incredible on-mountain dining. You can grab a bite while taking in those jaw-dropping Rocky Mountain views, or cozy up at the base with some warm comfort food.
I highly recommend the gooey grilled cheese and tomato soup—because nothing fuels an afternoon of skiing quite like melted cheese and carbs, right?
Just when we thought the day couldn’t get better, freshly baked cookies appeared by the lift. You heard that right. Every afternoon, they hand out warm, melt-in-your-mouth cookies. And I’m pretty sure there’s no better way to end a ski day than with a sweet treat and a view of snow-covered peaks.
(If you want to recreate this après-ski magic at home, I found a cookie scoop set and a classic hot chocolate mix here. Trust me, you’ll want both.)
Then came the moment that sealed this trip into family history forever. Thursday nights in the village are pure magic.
As the sky darkened, little skiers lit up the slopes in the Glow Worm Ski-Down, weaving down the mountain with glowing lights. It was like watching a fairy tale unfold in real time. And just when we thought it couldn’t get more enchanting—fireworks! The sky exploded with color, and my heart pretty much melted along with the last bits of snow on my gloves.
Looking back, there were a few little details that made our first family ski trip even better:
Hand warmers for tiny fingers. A must-have! I’ll be snagging these reusable ones before our next trip.
The right layers. Not all base layers are created equal, and staying warm without overheating is an art. This thermal set is now a must-have on my Ski Days list.
Après-ski coziness. Next time, I’m setting up a hot cocoa station in our room because why not go full winter wonderland?
If you’ve been on the fence about taking a ski trip with kids, consider this your sign: Do it. It’s messy, it’s exhausting, and yes, there will be meltdowns (both emotional and snow-related), but the magic? It’s worth every single moment.
Hyatt Beaver Creek gave us our dream first ski trip, and something tells me it won’t be our last.
Have you taken your family skiing? Tell me your best ski trip tips—I’m all ears (and probably still defrosting)! ❄️
