Thanksgiving Day recap: : A Holiday to Remember

Thanksgiving Day recap: : A Holiday to Remember

Thanksgiving has always held a special place in my heart, and this year was no exception. Spending the holiday at my parents’ house felt like stepping into a warm embrace filled with love, laughter, and tradition. It’s not just about the delicious food (though we had plenty!)—it’s about the memories we create, the traditions we pass down, and the moments that make this time of year so magical.

A Feast to Remember

We kicked off Thanksgiving Day with a feast that could rival any holiday spread. My parents always go all out, and this year was no different. From perfectly roasted turkey to all the classic sides—creamy mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, and stuffing—it was a meal to savor. My mom’s broccoli casserole is always the fav! And don’t get me started on the desserts: pumpkin pie, cookies, brownies and ice cream!

While the food was incredible, it was the conversations around the table that made the meal unforgettable. Stories from past Thanksgivings, moments of gratitude, and lots of laughter filled the room. I couldn’t help but think about how much these memories will mean to my kids one day.

Secret Santa & Bingo Fun

After the feast, it was time to bring on the fun. We drew names for our family Secret Santa, a tradition we all look forward to every year. Watching my kids light up with excitement as they grab their bags made my heart so full.

Next, we played bingo, and let me tell you, it got competitive! My dad always has a stash of yummy prizes, which makes the game even more entertaining!

A Unique Twist: Dad’s Burgers

After a day filled with traditional Thanksgiving food, my dad decided to switch things up and grill burgers for dinner. Yes, burgers after Thanksgiving dinner! It’s one of those fun  traditions that we adore. There’s something so comforting about gathering around with a plate of my dad’s famous burgers, even after a big holiday meal.

Sitting outside under the stars, enjoying a casual meal, and talking about everything and nothing—it was the perfect way to wind down after a busy day.

Games, Ping Pong & Pickleball

Thanksgiving at my parents’ house is never complete without games, and this year was no different. The kids (and adults!) played endless rounds of ping pong and pickleball. Watching my kids laugh with cousins cheering them on brought back so many memories of my own childhood.

These games aren’t just fun; they’re bonding moments that tie us together. Seeing everyone—from my youngest to my parents—laughing, playing, and encouraging each other is what family is all about.

Friday Bowling Tradition

Our Thanksgiving tradition doesn’t end on Thursday; Friday night is reserved for family bowling! This tradition has been a part of our Thanksgiving weekend for years, and it’s something we all look forward to.

Bowling is always a mix of strikes, gutter balls, and a whole lot of cheering. The kids love doing this every year. It’s less about the score and more about the shared experience, the high-fives, and the memories we’re creating.

Memories That Last a Lifetime

As I watched my kids run around, laugh, and soak in every moment of the weekend, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude. These are the moments they’ll carry with them—the family games, the Secret Santa surprises, the taste of Grandpa’s burgers, and the joy of bowling strikes (or almost strikes).

Thanksgiving at my parents’ house isn’t just a holiday; it’s a time capsule of love, joy, and tradition. It’s a reminder of where we come from and the memories we’re building for the future.

I hope these traditions, big and small, are ones my kids will cherish forever. And who knows? Maybe one day, they’ll share stories about their childhood Thanksgivings with their own kids.

Thanksgiving is about gratitude, and this year, I’m most thankful for the family that makes every moment feel magical.
