Our formal living room has shaped up to be one of my favorite rooms in our home. We love to gather here as a family, especially for Chris and the kids to play music!
We’ve been layering in and updating this space, to make it feel like our family. I really feel that this room sets the tone for our home. Overall, there is a classic and traditional formal living room designs aesthetic, but there are also touches of whimsy, vintage and a little bit of boho in our formal living room layout.
The moment that I saw these tall windows and the light pouring in they took my breath away! Especially once we removed the curtains in here, I could not be more in love with the light and beauty that these windows bring into our space.
These were a vision and dream of mine to have in a future home, and I am SO happy with how they turned out! Our flooring is from Riva floors!
I love our formal living room furniture — there is a main gathering area with a daybed, chairs and a bench, where all of us can fit, and there’s also a grouping of two of my favorite chairs — in a cozy corner perfect for additional seating. This wood coffee table would be a perfect fit as well. When you are looking for a cozy furniture option and something to cover up with this beige sectional and faux fur blanket are perfect!
Chris worked on updating our mantles throughout the home and I love how this one turned out. The tall mirror on top keeps with the feel that I wanted for our home. Another mirror option that I love is this one. Our new rug from ruggable!
I love the ease of having durable and machine washable rug options throughout our home.
We needed a tall shelving unit for this space, and Chris made my vision come to life. I love how much room there is for displaying art and our favorite treasures! When adding accessories to this space I love this wicker basket, this white ceramic circle vase: , dried pampas grass, and book stack.
Chris plays beautifully, and our kiddos are learning instruments as well. Nothing fills my heart up more than listening to them play together, and hearing their music fill the home! A music room is a great formal living room alternative. Another alternative option if you’re looking to change up your space it could be turned into an office!
Blue is one of my favorite colors, and has such a classic timeless feel to it. We’ve added accents of blue throughout many rooms of our home. This room has blue in pillows, our rug, fabric on benches, porcelain vases, artwork and florals. I like to repeat an accent color throughout a room or home, as it brings a cohesive, tied together feeling! Here’s a pretty blue & white lamp option.
Making changes to this space took vision and planning. One of the most important pieces to me, is that the finished room felt true to the home it’s both elegant and modern. I think that we pulled this off — and that the updates look original, and true to us all at once!
XO,
Casey Wiegand
