Nantucket, Massachusetts is such a dreamy place to vacation as a family. We’ve started to plan to come every summer, and each time that we visit I fall more in love. There’s nothing quite like summer in New England and the cool ocean breezes to escape the heat of Texas. Any time that I share about Nantucket, I get a lot of questions! That’s why I’ve decided to share a Nantucket vacation travel guide with all of our recommendations.
The ideal time to visit is June or July, and when you are in Nantucket, you’ll soon find that long walks and bike rides are almost too picturesque to take in! From classic New England homes complete with white picket fences, dripping with climbing rose bushes, and surrounded by hydrangeas, to quant fishing boats in the harbor, to the most beautiful lighthouses! Each time we visit, I find something new to fall in love with, Nantucket in summertime is truly a feast for the eyes.
We also love how family friendly it is here! There are casual restaurants perfect for a quick breakfast or to pick up sandwiches for a picnic, and a few dressier spots that would make for a lovely date night or special occasion. Coffee shops, ice cream parlors, sweet shops, art galleries, and more — there is something here for everyone!
This year, our family all rented Nantucket vacation rentals right next to one another. My parents came, as well as my brother and his family. It was so sweet to see all of the cousins together! Each time that we return, it feels as though the list grows of our family favorites that we come back to time and time again.
+ Grab lunch at Provisions Sandwiches +
Just trust me, don’t miss this one! My absolute favorite sandwich in the world is here, and I may have visited more than once this trip! Make sure that you get the Turkey Terrific sandwich, it’s like Thanksgiving in every bite: Mayo, stuffing, turkey breast, and cranberry sauce. SO good!
+ Stay in Sconcet +
We love riding bikes right here, the kids call it our “tiny town” and it really does feel like it’s own little town within Nantucket. There’s a place to grab ice cream there, a small market, courts to play family tennis, activities like bingo and movie nights!
+ Rent bikes to get around town +
We especially love riding bikes to the lighthouse, it’s the perfect spot for family photos — be sure to pack some Nantucket vacation outfits! Also, the gorgeous flowers on the houses along the way are nothing short of breathtaking. Perfect for a Nantucket vacation with kids!
+ Check out these restaurants +
A few of our favorite restaurants are Chanticleer, Claudetes, Galley Beach, White Elephant, The Summer House, and Cru. There are lots to choose from, and don’t miss out on fresh seafood!
+ Have a Clambake +
You could certainly pick up fresh clams and have your own, but if you’re into booking experiences I highly recommend going with the signature clambake at The Nantucket Hotel.
A few of our other favorite things in regards to renting a home: we LOVE to swim so we book a Nantucket vacation home with a pool, we made s’mores and pizzas many nights to end the perfect pool days!
My soul feels such a sense of peace and a spark of creativity in Nantucket! If you ever have the chance to visit, don’t hesitate, just go! It truly is a magical little corner of the world!
