I love this stage of life that my girls are in, still little enough to love mermaids, princesses, and make believe — but a bit older now, where they can independently play, and don’t need as much assistance when crafting or making art! This egg carton craft for kids was perfect for them, and they had so much fun making their egg carton mermaids!
It really does hit me sometimes, how one moment we are in the season of motherhood where our babies need us for their most basic needs. It feels like an honor, a privilege, and also at the same time, it can be consuming. If you’re in that season right now, know that it won’t be like this forever. In some ways you’ll miss it, I will forever miss my babies as babies, but I also am grateful in countless ways for the people that they are becoming. I really am loving this stage of life, and being able to get to know each of my children in different ways.
Summer is that time for me where I soak them in a little extra. We savor this time all together. This summer has been different of course, with our renovation and move, but we’ve still made it a priority to spend time together, to travel, to savor summer. It’s never far from my mind that we only have so many summers when they are little!
We love making art and creating together. I am working on a special space for them to create in our new home. I always try to be smart about setting things aside that we can re-use to craft with. Egg cartons are a perfect example! There are so many fun crafts that you can make, and reuse your egg cartons rather than toss them! Perfect for all ages, with varying help or guidance, including egg carton crafts for kids toddlers, egg carton crafts for kids preschool, egg carton crafts for kids easy!
+ Gently wipe or clean away any residue from a cardboard egg carton.
+ Depending on the age of your child, you may want to do this step, or supervise — carefully cutting around the edges of each “cup” until you have them all separated from the egg carton.
+ There are a variety of ways that you can attach each part of the carton together. I find either hole bunching the center and tying with string, or hot gluing work best. Again, you can supervise this or do this last part for your kiddos before they decorate.
+ Cut body and tail fin out and attach as well.
+ Next set them up with paint, glitter, jewels, seashells collected from a vacation — whatever you’d like, and let them get crafting!
So much fun, and the best part is they will play with these even after they are done creating them. You could totally put your own spin on this type of project repurposing egg cartons, some ideas that come to mind are: a rocket ship, Christmas trees, skirts for ballerinas or princesses, little monsters or ghosts, caterpillars, snakes, think egg carton crafts for kids christmas, egg carton crafts for kids easter, egg carton crafts for kids halloween, there are so many ways to be creative!
