I love creating special moments for our holiday celebrations, and The Fourth of July is one of our family’s favorites. Today I’m sharing a round up of ideas, to make your celebration extra festive.
This fourth of July cake is one of my favorites! It’s such a fun way to get festive, and to bring my kids in to help create something memorable. We will definitely be making this on July 4th!!!
To start, make your favorite vanilla cake! You can grab a recipe online, or use a mix. Whatever works best for you. I made mine in a 9×13 pan – and sometime if we are feeding a lot of friends, I will make two to create a giant layer cake!
Next, make some whipped cream (or buy some!) and cover the cake on all sides. I love using whipped cream instead of frosting because it feels so much lighter, and I love that during warmer weather.
Then comes the fun part! This is great time to include your kids and put their decorating skills to work. You’ll need blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries.
Rinse your berries really well (I like to soak mine for a few minutes in Thieves Fruit and Veggie Soak before I rinse), and blot them dry. Quarter your strawberries. I leave the stems on for a little color – but that part is up to you!
In the upper lefthand corner, create a square with the blueberries for the stars! Next, you’re going to create your stripes. Just alternate your strawberries and raspberries in each row, and you’re done.
A beautiful cake, fresh fruit, and you have your own star spangled banner, ready for your next get together!
This is such a simple treat, that makes any Fourth of July more colorful and fun.
Fresh Fruit! The more blue and red varieties the better. Think raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries. A star cookie cutter would be sweat for cutting melon into star shapes.
Grab a clear glass bowl with tall edges, or a trifle bowl. Start to layer your fruit. I like to keep each color separated because it really gives the American Flag feel.
Strategically space out your star shapes. So fun! Layer with whipped cream or vanilla yogurt. Enjoy!
Another fun dessert idea, is to make your favorite berry pie – blueberry, cherry, strawberry rhubarb, anything blue or red. When you’re topping with pie crust, cut out Stars and Stripes and lay flat on top. This will bake up so pretty, your guests are sure to enjoy your festive 4th of July treats!
Don’t forget festive 4th of July drinks, something sparkly and garnish with extra berries from your festive 4th of July desserts!
To keep the fun going, I’m sharing a few pics of festive 4th of July outfits ideas for kiddos. We love to mix and match, layering in red, white and blue of course. I think it’s extra sweet to add in star and stripe prints. For my girls, we love to have festive 4th of July hair and festive 4th of July nails!
So many sweet memories to be made, whether you’re heading to a parade, a BBQ, or for a day out on the water.
I hope that you have a special holiday with your families, and make memories to last a lifetime!
