One of my dreams for our home, is that meaningful art and photographs will fill every room. I’m often asked how I make our home feel warm and homey, and I truly believe this is one of the most important details. Art brings in personality and makes you feel something, it brings up emotions and memories.
When creating your own art wall, first I think it’s important to have fun. Don’t feel that you have to follow rules too closely. Give yourself permission to make your space feel like you!
Start collecting and gathering art. Family photographs old and new, quotes that are meaningful, printed art from shops that you love, hand painted art – thrift and antique shops are great for this.
You can go with a similar theme, and make all of the frames uniform, or you can mix and match. Again, this is up to you and what speaks to you most. I’ve seen both eclectic as well as modern and clean gallery walls done really beautifully.
Start to play around with a layout on your floor. Move pieces around, step back and view your layout as a whole.
Once you are happy with your design you can start hanging. If you’re brave, you can just go for it! If you want to be sure that the layout will work, consider using painters tape to mark off where the pieces will hang.
Step back and marvel at your masterpiece! A wall that your family and all who enter your home can admire for years to come!
