Halloween is right around the corner, which means there is so much room for some spooky fun!
I’m always looking for ways to incorporate the season. Snack boards aren’t just for adults, I think that they can be really fun to make snack boards for kids as well. They make your kids feel extra special, yet it doesn’t have to take a ton of effort to put a cute board together!
My kids love anything festive, and Halloween is one of their favorites. I love snack boards because they are a simple way to make a celebratory snack, and are a big crowd pleaser. My Halloween snack board is a huge hit with the kids, not only because it’s cute and festive, but because it’s filled with snacks perfect for little fingers!
Fruit, nuts, cheese, deli slices, marshmallows, caramel corn – sweet and salty and all the feelings of fall. I added in a few little plastic spiders, and the kids were thrilled! Snack boards entertaining makes setting food out for your next gathering a breeze!
WHATEVER YOUR THEME, WHATEVER THE SEASON OR HOLIDAY, MAKING THESE EASY SNACK BOARDS APPETIZERS THAT APPEAL TO THE LITTLE ONES IS SUPER SIMPLE AND SO MUCH FUN!
+ Sweet & Salty Mix
I think having a variety of flavors is a great way to have something for everyone! Sweet treats, salty nibbles, and I even love to incorporate spicy (I usually save this for snack boards that I make for adults).
+ Color Variation
A lot of crackers, nuts and snacks can all be sort of beige and one dimensional. Consider adding colorful fruits, dark colors like blackberries or black olives or a fig jam to bring in contrast, white in cheeses and spreads. Greenery through herbs — this really makes things more appealing!
+ Fresh & Local
When I’m going all out on a snack board, especially if we are hosting friends or family from out of town, I love to add some things that are local to us! Whether it be produce from a farmer’s market, or a local maker that creates preserves or spreads or honey, I think it adds such a personal touch!
+ Unique preparation
Since this snack board is specifically for Halloween, I think it can be fun to use cookie cutters to shape your cheese into fun outlines, add Halloween candy, make little marshmallow ghosts, or add spiders like I did!
+ Easy to grab
Easy to grab and go is the name of the game, especially with kids! Think simple bite sized foods that aren’t too messy.
+ Dips and Spreads
Typically I love to add some type of dip or spread that complements the cheeses or cracker variety that I have set out. This is usually a big crowd pleaser!
+ Packaged and Fresh
I like to do a mix of these, if I’m adding mostly things like crackers, pretzels, nuts etc. I like to balance with some fruits or veggies — even something as simple as a cluster of grapes or thinly sliced apples would be perfect for this!
+ Collect pretty boards
I’m always scouting out pretty cutting boards, platters, trays, and large plates. Some of my favorite spots to find these are Homegoods, World Market, Vintage, Anthropologie, and Target. You’ll be surprised what you find!
+ Look around at what you have first
You may have more than what you think, already on hand! Don’t forget to check your decor and party supplies, you might have something that can add the perfect festive touch!
+ Small snack boards are fun too!
Don’t wait until a big party to make a huge fancy charcuterie board, even if it’s just for your children or a friend or two, smaller scale snack boards are still so sweet and add a special touch to even the smallest gathering.
Let me know if you make your own Halloween snack board and tag me if you share it on social media! I love to see how you all take these creative ideas and run with them!
