a lifestyle blog about motherhood, intention, whimsical moments, and wellness
Valentine Love.
Holidays have always meant so much to me. For as long as I can remember, my mom has been so intentional about making them special. It was never about being lavish….. It was just thoughtful and wonderful and so special.
We’d make special cards, she’d decorate with sweet little things she found when she was out and about. It’s something I’ve taken with me into my own motherhood, the way that I want to create special moments for my kids, ones I hope they’ll always treasure like I have.
A tradition we always had with my dad growing up was pancakes for every occasion. I can remember him in the kitchen, mixing up the batter, pouring it into the pan… creating these simple, meaningful moments that shaped my childhood. My sweet husband has carried that into our marriage, and created that for our kids.
There is nothing more magical than watching him pour out his love in small, simple ways that I know my kids will remember all the way through their own family traditions. He will make pancakes and waffles special for all different occasions… and Valentine’s day is no different! Heart shapes and lots of love in every bite for each one of our kids.
Sometimes creating these moments withs them is just a matter of speaking it out loud. That’s what Chris and I do with each of them – we will have our own little family parties right at our kitchen table. “This is our Valentine’s party!” I’ll tell them, and we set the mood with fun music, and little decorations from the dollar spot. Setting the tone for togetherness and joy.
A beautiful cake, pretty little cookies… sweet treats to sweeten day. I love making little handmade cards with them. Watching their creativity flourish in those moments brings me so much joy. We make Valentine’s play dough, nibbling on our cookies, laughing. Being together. That’s most important part of all of it.
Whatever your holiday looks like with your own little ones, I hope it is filled with joy and laughter and a little bit of glitter.
