chickens & our backyard fix-up.
I have been hoping for a little backyard remodel for awhile now and this past weekend we decided to make it happen! Nothing much… just crushed granite, new grass, a bunny/chicken coop, a fire pit, some of our old chairs and some twinkle lights. These are some of the before pictures and a little peek at the coop at the very end. I will post all of the “after” pics soon when everything is completely finished. I love spending time outside and really wanted to make our space a little more magical. Chris can build anything and loves a good project so he did all of this in 2 days!
We have had our bunnies since the beginning of the summer and the same little farm that we got them from also sells chickens. As I was pinning bunny coops, I started to get the itch for a cute little chickie as well! The chicks live on the top of the coop and the bunnies on the bottom in separate sections. He also is going to have a little place where they can jump down and run a bit!
These sweet little chicks have already stolen my heart. They are so sweet with the kids and Aiden & Ains absolutely adore them. Today they were singing them a little lullaby to sleep, be still my heart! We are thrilled to have 2 more sweeties to add to our crew :).
So fun! Your husband did a great job on the coop, it looks fantastic! I'm currently in the process of talking my hubby into letting us get chicks in the spring. He's coming around… I'm excited!
Oooo I love it! We have chickens too and they are so fun! We have gone with fictional characters starting with a 'B', so we've had Bernard and Bianca (gorgeous Polish!) Beatrix, Beatrice, Bella, and Buttercup. You'll have fun watching as they set up their pecking order. It is quite a thing! We thought Buttercup was the lowly one because no one bothered her, turns out they would leave her alone because she was the Queen B.
I Love to see backyard remodels! I feel like ours is always in a state of construction. Your hubby is so handy!! I love that everything you do is a family affair. We are the same way. 🙂 Can't wait to see the after pics! Have a wonderful week love!!
He just BUILT this in 2 days? I swear! He's got talent AND motivation! He's a keeper Casey! Love the coop! Can't wait to see the final pictures of the back yard. Sounds dreamy!!!
I absolutely love your photos they are absolutely beautiful. Those chicks are so adorable. Brings back memories of my childhood growing on up on a small farm. Can you send Chris to my house for a few days? LOL I could really use a handyman to get some projects done; I'm more handy with tools than my husband and that's not saying much!
I love your pictures! The names Aiden picked are sweet….obviously words he hears a lot and loves. When I was his age I named my parakeets the toella (towel in spanish) and……….Lucifer. I had no idea why everyone gasped because to me it was just the name of the black cat in Cinderella and the parakeet was black haha. I'm surprised my mom let me keep the name but it makes for a funny memory now.
I don't think I've seen a cuter family… seriously, I'm dying over these pictures!! That first one with her hugging the chick melts my heart! Looks like y'all had a wonderful time building the chick coop! 🙂
Chickens are SO fun! They are honestly the greatest pets for kids. I am sure you guys will enjoy them:) cant wait to see the finished backyard!! I love outdoor spaces:)
soul and brave – like the cakies girls' names. that's funny! we have three chickens and love them 🙂 we freerange though – we have a small coop with a 16 foot run and they peck each other unless we let them out during the day.
Congrats on the two new little chicks! They are beyond adorable. You are going to have so much fun keeping chickens. We've had chickens for over four years now and I can't imagine life without them. They make really great pets, and their eggs are delicious! My favorite part of my day is collecting the eggs in the evening 🙂
Shut the front door!!!! I sooooooo want a chicken coop with fresh eggs…except there is one major problem I am terrified of birds lol. So maybe I really want lots of land with a chicken coop so that the chicken can live far away from me .lol
These are some of the sweetest pictures I've ever seen! When I saw those names that your sweet little boy suggested for the chicks, my heart melted. Those chicks could not have ended up in a sweeter family/home!
