One of my favorite details that we added to our new home during our renovation are our hallway with arches. This adds architectural interest and a classic design element throughout our home.
Several of the arches that we added in are in our downstairs hallway that connects our entryway to some of the main rooms of our downstairs like our art room, and into our kitchen and main living room.
I knew right away when we started our remodel that I wanted to add lots of ornate trim work and arched entryways. I love the added interest and texture this brings to our walls, that we painted white. Details like this though new, feel classic and original to the home. Our arches have beautiful molding and casing that make them feel grand and add a statement to our hallway space.
We added cage style lantern chandeliers to our hallway with arches. We centered the lighting down the halls flanked by our new arches. It adds such a whimsical feel into our long downstairs hallway — I am beyond happy with this design choice and how it’s changed the feel of our downstairs!
Larger molding, board and batten, chair rail, crown molding, ceiling trim work — all of this can make such a huge impact! This can be a cost effective way to add value and interest in a smaller room as well! A thick substantial trim would be gorgeous in a hallway with arched windows!
You’d be amazed at what a difference an arch or a hallway with arched doors can make. Is there an opening to a room that you want to further define? Consider adding in an arched entry! A hallway with arches is so inviting! Not looking to make a big change, look for an arched piece of furniture or hallway with arch mirror!
I love the idea of using flat paint and then a higher gloss when painting the walls and trim the same color. This adds a visual element without being too bold.
Sconces are the perfect fit for most any space! These can be added in a simple way if you use a battery powered light that doest require hard wiring. The more lighting the merrier!
I’m a lover of adding texture, color, and pattern — wallpaper always does the trick! Even in a powder room or small hallway, wallpaper can make a world of difference.
I love our tile in our foyer, the muted checkerboard makes such a statement in our entryway. Consider adding tile to define certain areas of your home.
It’s been such a joy for me to make many of these design choices for our home and to watch as it all comes together. So much of this remodel has been a reminder for me that simple changes can make a big impact.
Adding arches to our hallway made a big difference in our downstairs. They add charm and classic beauty into our space, and really keep with the overall feel that we’ve woven through our home.

Casey Wiegand
