Gingersnap Cookie Shooters for Kids

What better way to ring in the New Year than gingersnap cookie shooters for kids?! Spread out some festive dessert boards and toast to 2020 with homemade gingersnap lids, gold striped straws, and a shot of cold milk. Your kiddos are going to feel like grownups with their raised glasses (also known as espresso cups full of milk). Celebrate 2019 nearing completion and a new year just beginning family style!

I was originally going to make chocolate chip cookies for these kid-friendly shooters, but after seeing these gingersnaps all over Instagram via Bridget, I decided to switch gears. I am so glad I did! I thought the ginger and molasses would be a palette stretch for the kids, but we all dug the winter flavors. The spices seem heavy (a whole teaspoon of ginger?!), but trust me. They’re perfect.

Gingersnap Cookie Shooters for Kids

(recipe credit: lin hauf!)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup oil
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp salt
Mix ingredients from brown sugar to egg together.  Beat well.  Then, mix flour to salt in a separate bowl. Gradually blend flour mixture into molasses mixture – by hand.  Using about 1 tablespoon for each, form into 1 1/4″ balls, or whatever size your shooter glasses are. (You want the cookies to fit the tops of your glasses.) Roll the dough balls in granulated sugar (you could skip this step).  Place 2″ apart on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes.  Makes 4 dozen, depending on their size.

Step One: After the cookies have finished baking and before they have cooled, screw a straw into the center of the cookie to create a hole.

Step Two: Fill your glasses with milk. I used little espresso cups we had on hand. Literally, the cutest. But you could use actual shot glasses or mini mason jars or whatever you have on hand. Just make sure that you know what glasses you’ll use before you bake the cookies, so that you can have your cookies match the diameter of your glasses and completely cover the tops.

Step Four: stack your cookies on top of your glasses.

Step Five: poke straws in through the cookie holes and snip off the ends to desired length.

Step Six: throw some sprinkles on top for some extra color.
