I did this as a guest post for Katie this week and thought I would share!
My life revolves around creativity. I am a blogger (here), I am an abstract artist (here), we own an art studio for kids (here), my husband is a photographer and makes movies and I also do blog design (here). So being completely honest a lot of times I am just burnt out!
I am constantly creating.
So maybe the trick is to let ourselves have breaks…then in a moment we don’t expect it, we will be re.inspired.
A fresh tube of paint,
feet hitting the pavement on an evening run,
the first snow of winter,
a great song on the radio with the windows down,
a late night sitting on the kitchen floor talking with your husband about dreams.
These are the moments that I run and write out a blog post or grab my paintbrush.
But you know it’s okay to not feel inspired or creative all the time. That is exhausting. I say don’t force it. If it’s not there, that’s okay. And I say be true to who you are. For me personally, I am not so good in some areas- like recipes. So those I normally let guest posts have…I am not trying to be something I’m not. Sometimes we need to cut ourselves a break.
We will come back better, more creative.
If you have been in a rut for awhile I say get back to what you love.
For me I would go sit by a lake and watch the sunset, I would put a good song on the radio and dance with my babies, I would eat waffles on my back porch or look through pictures on pinterest…..then maybe somewhere along the way….in a moment you aren’t looking for it, aren’t forcing it or expecting it-
you will find it again.
I love you pictures!
You always say just what I need to hear…thank you! I've been feeling in a bit of a rut lately, but it's good to know I'm not alone…and I always have to remember that a good workout or reading some inspiring posts by others will help the creativity flow again. Thank you Casey for always being a blog I can go to for inspiration 🙂
You are inspiring.
Love you my friend.

Being Creative ALL the time is exhausting. It wears you out and can drag you down if you're not careful. It's good to take breaks and just enjoy your life and your kids! Then, when you're ready, you sit back down to your craft with new eyes and new awareness to what you want to show the world. Thanks for sharing all of this with us. I know I'm not the only one who appreciates it!

This is so true. When you try and force it, it doesn't seem to come. I feel like I get most of my good ideas when I'm laying in bed in the morning nursing my little boy, or when I'm driving with the windows down and the radio on.
Thanks for the reminder and the encouragement 🙂
this is just an inspiring post! Sometimes just hearing words like that inspire me. Such cute pictures…you truly are blessed with the most beautiful family 🙂
So true… I found some re-inspiration going through old boxes of photos last week. 🙂
you encourage me to love the family I don't even have yet MORE.
So true what you said. The best ideas and blogspots are the ones that come as a surprise to the writer and speak to the writer more than the reader…

Ahh you are so inspiring. I have been in a major creative rut and your advice was spot on.

Oh goodness thank you! Thank you for writing my emotions on one page. Thank you for being here for everyone. On your own time. Thank you. This was all the honesty I had to hear tonight.
you always say things so beautifully and perfectly. and it's always what i needed to hear that day. thank you so much!
This post couldn't have come at a more perfect time. Well said, sister!
And can Ains get any cuter in that little tutu?! I think my heart just bursted, she is soooo adorable!
LOVE YOU!!!!
It's so very true, and you've said it beautifully. The inspiration always comes around when you're not looking for it, and when it does, you've gotta run with it!
Creativeness comes and goes for sure!!! Just last night, I sat down to write my post for Friday. I usually do a run down of saying goodbye to the week, hello to the weekend, and a Lessons Learned. Last night I just sat at my computer screen, staring, thinking about what I learned this week. Nothing came to mind. I went to bed. This morning, I awoke at 6:00 am, in the stillness and darkness of the bedroom it just came to me. I got up, sat at my computer and started typing. The post was done in 15 minutes. You can't force creativity!!!! Thanks for the reminder and not having us feel alone about.
I think it's so important to do things just for fun to be inspired! And of course, reading your blog is inspiring! 🙂
This is great, Casey! Thanks for sharing. Sometimes, when I lose my creativity regarding my blog, I feel ashamed and think that good bloggers should always know what to write and what to post. But in all honesty, it's a creative process and we're all going to hit a rut once in awhile. You have such a beautiful perspective on it!
GAH! I LOVE that heart ring. It is so beautiful!

So inspirational! Sometimes I have so much in my head trying to get out, I feel like I need to have post-it's handy in the shower, and by my bed. Other times, it's days or weeks and I can't think of anything.
This is soooo true! It's hard to remember, but I try not to beat myself up when everything seems so hard and like I'm striving. I have to learn to just let it go so that it will come back to me freely. :o)
Thanks for posting!
As always you moved my heart with this post. Seems like you always are one step ahead of me on what I need to work on. You are always inspiring.
I love that ring and I always love looking at your gorgeous pictures.

I am totally with you. If I could count the times a blog post came to me during an evening run or while listening to a song on my ipod…………
This is something my friend gave me some advice on recently…he said you have to realize that it's ALL part of the process. Even if you feel like you're not being creative, or you have writer's block or whatever, don't stress. It's just your brain and body doing the internal work before it is ready to come out!
That is some of the best advice I've ever gotten.
This is a great & inspiring post and your photo are beautiful!
(and I'm SORRY about the multiple entrances on the linky tools!!
The page was saying Oops.. Sorry.. There must be a problem! and suddenly i'm there 4 times, gah! )
you're inspiring girl! what an adorable family you have! great post!
